DECEMBER 97
NEW YEAR AT THE CLIFFORDS
Doug Clifford's home in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, saw a lively New Year party. Those in
attendance were Stu Cook, Doug Clifford, Trish Fogerty - Tom's widow - and families
(spouses and children). Doug and Stu were the rhythm section for all the kids. They played
piano, harmonica and flute with Doug and Stu until about 2 AM. At one point Nichole, Tom
and Trish's youngest (about 10), pushed Cosmo off the drums, setting the precedent for a
string of "closet" drummers. One of the attendees labeled the occasion
"Truly a once in a lifetime NY.".- (River Rising News Service.)

JOHN FOGERTY HBO SPECIAL TAPED
A friend of Robert Aerts, River Rising Discography Consultant
from Europe, reported to him that on Friday, Dec.12, "I attended the taping of
John's HBO special at the Warner Bros. Studios. It was an invited
audience of about 800 and they had that wonderful "Blue Moon Swamp" set on the
stage. The show was terrific and the highlights for me were the inclusion of "Rockin'
All Over the World," "Almost Saturday Night" and a dynamite new song which
he debuted last night called "Premonition." The latter is one of his best
compositions and an instant Fogerty classic.
He joked that every ten years he gets around to writing a new song. He also kidded about
"Rockin" being from one of his many comeback albums. He was in a jovial mood,
smiling and everything. Julie was in the audience too.
The HBO special is supposed to air in the spring and it should be great because they had
lots of cameras and some really fancy and sophisticated technological devices. The
Fairfield Four and The Waters backed him on several songs. Fogerty was a bit nervous at
first but he really came on strong and had the audience up on their feet. The show is
being taped again tonight (Saturday) in the same location. Through Robert Aerts.
Ed. Note: This is obviously the free John Fogerty Concert that has been promoted since
November at the Warner Bros. Studios. See the November News.

NORTH EAST DECEMBER TOUR RUMORED
Pike reports that he has heard that "John has
vague plans of doing a small tour in the North East this december. Could it be that he
will be recording this LiveAlbum at one of the venues here? His Hammerstein Ballroom shows
in NY has got to be the best of the tour, so I certainly hope so."
BLUE MOON SWAMP TOUR LIVE ALBUM
People in the know have reported Warner Brother is planning on recording and releasing
a live album with John Fogerty's American performances in the current BMS Tour.
Although an anouncement has not been made, sources say possibilities are real since,
according to his contrat, John Fogerty must record one more album for Warner Bros and
speculation is that this one should be it. Meanwhile, there's already a double CD boot
with JCF's Hamburg Concert in June 1997 and another - privately made - with the
Roskilde performance.
FOGERTY IN AUSTRALIA AND SOUTH AMERICA?
Promoters have been approached in Chile to look into a yet to-be-announced 1998 South
American leg of John Fogerty's current Blue Moon Swamp Tour. Nothing is clear so far.
Also, there were rumors about John Fogerty going to Australia at the begining of 1998 but
there's nothing firm on that.
FOGERTY FEATURED IN MUSICIAN MAG
The November Issue of "Musician Magazine" features an article on John Fogerty.
LAVISH SWEDISH PRESS REPORTS ON JCF
PERFORMANCE
Today's newspapers are full of praise for Friday night's concert, reports Michael Bernarder. "The
leading daily Svenska Dagbladet says that JF's voice is as good as ever, but that his
guitarr playing has improved immensely since the old days. The paper goes as far as saying
his one of the very best rock'n'roll guitarrists of the 90's! What can u say?"
OCTOBER
johnfogerty.com HAS MOVED
The official John Fogerty Web Site is hosted now at the Warner Bros Co. Internet
Server and it has been trimmed down. Allegedly, John Fogerty was not happy with the
way his former Webmasters ran his Web and now he has enlisted the help of his
sister-in-law Lisa, who is very knowledgeable on Internet stuff. The John
Fogerty Webpage can still be reached at his regular address http://www.johnfogerty.com which has
been retained.
THE TOUR-THAT-NEVER-WAS GOT CANCELLED
John Fogerty will not tour Europe in the Fall '97 and will just perform extensively in
Sweden instead. "In a nutshell - a spokesperson close to John Fogerty told River
Rising - promoters [in Europe] made offers to John and started selling tickets before he
agreed/confirmed the dates.I want to restate that John never confirmed these dates with
the European promoters. Those promoters had no business promoting and/or selling tickets
to those shows without confirming the dates with John. So this situation has nothing to do
with John whatsoever. John is disgusted with these dates being sold before there was any
agreement to play these dates. "
The news of the cancellation of the would-be-tour did not sit well with
some fans. The same spokesperson said: "The promoter is the entity to which you
should be venting your frustration."
John will be play a huge amount of dates in Sweden, partly because - as
someone close to him said - he is "focussing on Scandinavia first because the record
was so well received there. It debuted at #1,2,3,4 in those countries." Advise to
fans worlwide: if you want to see John live, go buy the record <g>!
THE RIVER RISING:
"GEM-OF-THE-NET" - Oct 23
The River Rising Web has been listed as "Gem of the Net" for this week by THE MINING
COMPANY Classick Rock Section. The Mining Co. is a Web Site that specializes
in Rock and Music subjects on the Internert.
BLUE MOON SWAMP BILLBOARD ARTICLE
Cover story on John Fogerty in the Oct. 18 Billboard, as reported by
BillOJr@aol.com. Lots of interesting stats that only
Billboard can provide such as the pre- and post-concert sales units of BMS in some of the
cities that he played (for example, 119 units in the week before Nashville, 302 in the
week after). Apparently the tour is
improving CD sales by anywhere from 50% to 300% wherever he plays. Some other
interesting points:
364,000 copies sold in the U.S.
500,000 copies sold outside the U.S.
"Hot Road Heart" is indeed the next single, and a video has already been
filmed. The effect of "Southern Streamline" on the country market was
"minimal" but
the video did well on CMT. On the 2nd leg of his tour, he plans on working in "Up
Around the Bend" and "Run through the Jungle" based on audience requests
during the first leg.
THE DEFINITIVE CCR COLLECTION
RELEASED IN AUSSIE
CCR - The Ultimate Collection is now in Australia, Ian
Gray reports. It is a compilation CD and replaces the previously released 21st
Anniversary - The Ultimate Collection which was issued in 1990. The new CD shares the same
24 songs as on the previous release but also contains a limited edition bonus 6 track CD.
The bonus CD has the tracks Susie Q, Pagan Baby, Ramble Tamble, Graveyard Train, Effigy
and a live version of Keep On Chooglin'. As the CD boasts, this bonus CD includes the
complete versions of these classic tracks. All in all the 2CD set has 30 tracks in total.
As it says on the front of the CD, the CD has been digitally remastered and fully
restored. This may well be the definitive CCR collection although the two voulmes of
Chronicle contain
more songs and having another compilation of songs may only be of interest to collectors
of CCR. The picture on the cover of the CD was taken during the same shooting session as
on the picture taken for the Chronicle, Vol. 2 cover. This photo is just as cool as that
photo and this time John is looking at the camera. This is also the first instance where a
CCR CD (in Australia) has a see through CD holder with a picture thrown in on the inside
of the back insert. Behind the CD holder is the painting of CCR which was featured on the
LP insert included with CCR Gold and More CCR Gold. This alone makes this CCR compilation
the best lookin' one of all. Sure beats the bland looking gold coloured 21st Anniversary
CD.
As well as there being a new Ultimate Collection CD being released in Australia, there's
been a rerelease of original CCR CDs. The CDs I saw in my local music store were Creedence
Clearwater Revival, Bayou Country, Green River, Willy & The Poor Boys, Pendulum and
Mardi Gras. All these titles are selling for a limited time for $14.95. So for all the
Aussies on the list, get 'em while you can at this price. These CDs have been retailing
here for twice that price. The Cosmo Factory CD wasn't with the other CDs. I suppose CF
will have to be still bought at the full price which is usually around $25 to $30 (in
Australia anyway).
SEPTEMBER
FARM AID: BACK FROM THE BLUES - Sept. 18
The organizers of Farm Aid '97
announced Wednesday that the Oct. 4 fund-raising concert has been moved from Texas Stadium
to a Chicago suburb. The event now is scheduled for the 30,000-seat New World Music Theatre
in Tinley Park, Ill., 20 miles southwest of downtown
Chicago. Poor sales and lack of support are blamed for the move.
MIXMAG FOGERTY INTERVIEW - Sept. 17
Mix Magazine On-Line carries an in-depth
interview with John Fogerty. Reported by Joe
Hannigan.
FARM AID CONCERT CANCELLED - Sept. 17
AP has reported that the Farm Aid '97
concert has been cancelled because of "lagging
ticket sales and a lack of corporate support." This year's concert was to include
John Mellencamp,Neil Young, John Fogerty, the Dave Matthews Band and Willie Nelson.
Contributed by John Robeson and Hank Bordowitz.
BLUE BOY MAXI SINGLE ANNOUNCED RELEASE - Sept. 17
Blue Boy maxi Single to be released in Australia on October 6. Reported by Blue Meannie Records
FOGERTY TO MOVE TO INDIANA? - Sept. 17
The "South Bend Tribune" reported that "John Fogerty and
his wife, Elkhart native Julie Kramer, still plan to move their family to South Bend, but
with six to eight months left on his
"Blue Moon Swamp" tour, tonight's Morris Civic Auditorium is the closest they'll
get to their future digs for quite a while. In a telephone interview from Milwaukee, where
Fogerty and his band played Wednesday, he said he and his wife discussed both purchasing
an existing home
and building a new home, but have not yet made a decision either way."Hopefully,
sometime in the spring is when I'll be able to look for a home in South Bend," Kramer
says. "We will be proud to live in South Bend. It's a quiet, beautiful place. Living
in Los Angeles, there are so many people. We are going to love having some privacy and
some space."
As for after they move to South Bend, Fogerty is still unsure what, if any, role he will
have in the local music scene."I'm a natural musician," he says. "That's
probably a natural inclination,
but most of the reason I'm moving to Indiana is for our home life. That is Julie and my's
main objective."In other words, I'm not going to turn my house into a recording
studio. We're mostly concerned with the quality of life for our children."
Finally River Rising member Dave
Joens reports that at Sunday 14concert, Fogerty said early: "It is great to
be here. It is great to be (pause) home." When introducing Kenny Aronoff, who is from
Indiana and who received a hero's welcome from the crowd, Fogerty said something to the
effect that he, too, is from Indiana. Also, after congratulating the crowd on singing
along, Fogerty invited everyone in the audience back to his house "after he and Julie
get settled."
FOGERTY HONORED IN GERMANY - Sept. 14
The September/October issue of "Jazz thing", a German Jazz magazine reports that
John Fogerty´s BLUE MOON SWAMP got the "Preis der deutschen
Schallplattenkritik" (German record-critics'award) for the period July to September
1997 in the section "Blues, Pop and Rock". By Reinhold Schuttkowski.
BLUEBOY SINGLE COMING OUT IN EUROPE [Sept 4]
Blueboy will be out in Europe on September 22nd. The two extra songs on the CD single
will probably be (again) Endless Sleep and Just Pickin'. Reported by Robert Aerts
RUMORS ON BMS EUROPEAN TOUR COME TRUE
[Sept. 3]
People close to the John Fogerty management told River Rising that " John never
confirmed these dates with the European promoters. Those promoters had no business
promoting and/or selling tickets to those shows without confirming the dates with John. So
this situation has nothing to do with John whatsoever. John is disgusted with these dates
being sold before there was any agreement to play these dates." This is in connection
to the rumors of some European dates being cancelled. It turns out that those dates
(Manchester and others) were never official stuff and, therefore, never existed. For more
details see the On Tour 97! Section of this
Website. Official John Fogerty dates at the John
Fogerty Web. See also Philip Brady's comments,

ROLLING STONE WEBSITE DISCLOSES IMPORTANT
INFORMATION (22)
The Rolling Stone Magazine Website featured today an
article which says that after a Court lifted the Revisited Injunction, "Stu Cook and
Doug Clifford are suing (John) Fogerty for defamation and breach of fiduciary duty".
The article adds that, according to Jeff Fogerty - the late's Tom Fogerty's oldest son -
his uncle John Fogerty is trying to dissuade those artists approached by Jeff for his
planned CCR Tribute album whose proceedings - in an as yet undisclosed part - should go to
an Aids charity. Rolling Stones also reports that Jeff Fogerty has said that his father
"actually died of respiratory failure due to AIDS", a fact that had been closely
guarded by the family and all surviving CCR former members for seven years.

9th CIRCUIT LENDS "CREEDENCE" TO "REVISITED"
Founding Creedence Clearwater Revival Members Stu
Cook and Doug Clifford Prevail Over Ex-Bandmate Fogerty
SAN FRANCISCO -- Two of the founding members of Creedence Clearwater
Revival, Stu Cook and Doug "Cosmo" Clifford, have regained the right to call
their band Creedence Clearwater Revisited after the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals
overturned a lower court's ruling Friday. The lower court had forced Clifford and Cook to
abandon the name Creedence Clearwater Revisited after the remaining founding member of
CCR, John Fogerty, obtained an injunction in October of 1996 claiming fan confusion.
"We obviously feel vindicated," said Cook. "From the beginning this
project has been only about good music and good fun, not personnel or politics."
Clifford added, "Stu and I have great love for CCR music. There is nothing confusing
about our show, our band, or who's in it. We're glad that the Court of Appeals
agrees."
In a tersely written opinion, 9th Circuit Judges Browning, Fletcher and Kozinski
stated, "Because we conclude that the District Court clearly erred, we reverse the
District Court's grant of a preliminary injunction. The evidence submitted by both parties
convincingly demonstrates that the public was unlikely to be, and in fact was not confused
about Fogerty's association with Revisited."
The Court added, "Here, the record contains virtually no evidence that [Clifford
and Cook were] engaged in deceptive or misleading advertising or marketing. It does not
support District Court's finding that Fogerty would probably prevail on the merits....The
record contains no evidence that the American public actually was confused or led to
believe that Fogerty was associated with Revisited. We therefore assign little weight to
the evidence that at least one German and one Thai Fogerty fan was confused as to
Fogerty's involvement in the Revisited tour."
This is the latest legal skirmish surrounding the super-group, which disbanded in the
fall of 1972. Creedence Clearwater Revival recordings still sell over a million units per
year and total sales have topped 110 million.
Prior to the legal spat, Creedence Clearwater Revisited was one of the surprise hits of
the year according to Pollstar, a music industry trade magazine. Pollstar said Creedence
Clearwater Revisited enjoyed "good business, averaging 4,000 tickets per show."
Clifford and Cook plan to resume touring again as Creedence Clearwater Revisited
immediately.

REVISITED INJUNCTION LIFTED (15)
AP reported that the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals lifted the October 1996 ban on Doug
Clifford and Stu Cook using the name Creedence Clearwater Revisited
that had been sought by John Fogerty, "finding little evidence of confusion."
According to AP, the Court said "the new band should be allowed to use its preferred
name while the case continues." Contributed by Hank
Bordowitz.
SECOND FOGERTY SINGLE- (13)
A second single-CD from Blue Moon Swamp will be released in September in
Germany, featuring "BLUEBOY" and two unreleased tracks. This will add-up to the
